Samsung has officially announced its latest flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at its Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event in Barcelona, Spain. These devices already passed through various leaks and rumours but here we have the official specification listing. Powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU, there is no doubt to say that these are the Samsung most powerful Smartphones ever launched till date.
Coming to specifications, the Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) 2K Super AMOLED display offering a pixel density of 577ppi while the Galaxy S7 Edge features a slightly bigger 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) QHD Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 534ppi. A new feature called “Always-on” has been included which shows the notifications even your device screen is turned-off. The Galaxy S7 Edge has an Edge screen for quick access of the apps just similar to that of its predecessor, the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Considering the hardware, both the smartphones includes all-new Snapdragon 820 quad-core CPU clocking at 2.1 GHz coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. In some markets, these devices will be powered with 64-bit 2.3GHz Exynos 8890 octa-core processor. It comes in 32GB/64GB storage variants with an option to expand further up to 200GB via microSD card which was missing in Samsung previous flagship devices, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Both of them has dual SIM support with dual Standby and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 12MP rear facing camera with dual pixel sensor, f/1.7 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash for taking quality pictures in low-light. On the front, there is a 5MP shooter with f/1.7 aperture for video chats and other Selfie purposes. Both of them are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. It also comes with Fingerprint scanner being allocated on the Physical home for better security and other payments purposes via Samsung Pay.
The various connectivity options included within the smartphones are 4G LTE, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and a microUSB 2.0 port. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are powered with 3000mAh and 3600mAh battery respectively and supports fast Charging both on wired and wireless (WPC & PMA) charging.
Price and Availability:
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are priced at Eur 569 and Eur 639 in Europe and comes in Silver, Gold, White and Black color options. The company will soon announce the pricing details for other global markets. Both these smartphones will go on sale starting from March 11.
